Personal statement

I hold the post of Reader in Finance at the University of 海角论坛, having previously been Senior Lecturer in Finance at 海角论坛, and Lecturer in Finance at the University of Aberdeen.听

听

At 海角论坛, I have held extensive management responsibilities including Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research), Convenor of the University Ethics Commitee (UEC), Departmental Director for Postgraduate Research, and Course Director for the Undergraduate Honours Year.

听

I have held the role of Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research) since August 2024 with oversight for PhD, DBA, MPhil and MRes students at 海角论坛 Business School.听

听

Outside of department and university responsibilities, I acted as Chair of the Scottish Area Group of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) from 2016 to 2019.听 I was Secretary General for the University of 海角论坛鈥檚 team that hosted the 38th European Accounting Association Annual Congress in 2015.听 With Andrew Marshall, I led the University of 海角论坛鈥檚 successful bid to host the Financial Management Association European Conference in 2019.听听

听

I am Convenor of the University of 海角论坛 Ethics Committee, having previously acted as Vice Convenor and committee member.听 I have chaired the Department of Accounting and Finance Ethics commitee. I also act as a member of a NHS Research Ethics Committee, working with staff from NHS, academia and industry to ensure that medical research is robust and ethically sound.

Teaching

My teaching focus is on Corporate Finance or Financial Management, and have led modules in these subjects to Undergraduate and Masters cohorts.听 I have previously led undergraduate and postgraduate 听modules on Asset Pricing, Case Studies in Finance, Derivatives, Introductory Finance, and Portfolio Theory internationally in Bahrain, Oman, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Tanzania, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as on campus in Glasgow.

听

Research Interests

My research and PhD supervision interests cover most areas of corporate finance, and specifically corporate restructuring, employee layoffs, asset divestitures and liquidity in the market for corporate assets.听 I welcome PhD applicants interested to work in these areas.

I have published papers in leading international finance journals including Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, European Financial Management, and British Accounting Review.听
